political party PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) led by Imran Khan is planning to start its election campaign for the upcoming Punjab polls.
This could indicate that the political situation in Punjab is heating up, as parties gear up to compete for power in the region.
PTI to begin election campaign
Asad Umar announced via his verified Twitter account that the Tehreek-e-Insaf party will commence its election campaign officially starting tomorrow. In his tweet, Umar also mentioned that although the PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement) may not be prepared, PTI is prepared to launch its campaign. The PTI recently completed its list of 297 candidates for the elections, and despite doubts surrounding the election’s future, the party has announced the launch of its campaign.
The PTI concluded the selection of candidates through a rigorous process of one-on-one interviews, conducted by Imran Khan himself, to ensure that merit was upheld in the allocation of party tickets.
According to Geo News, this process lasted from April 6 to April 18. Despite the party’s efforts to maintain transparency, the ticket allocation process has faced criticism from high-profile members who were not granted tickets.
In response, Imran Khan plans to form a review committee that includes PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Asad Umar to address the objections raised by party members, as reported by Geo News.
Although the PTI set up a four-member committee on Thursday to address objections, backlash from party workers and supporters may lead Imran Khan to involve senior members in making a final decision on ticket appeals, as per Geo News.
